An iconic British modernist Dressing Table designed by architect couple John & Sylvia Reid for Stag of Nottingham as part of the much sought after 'Cumberland' range. Boasting crisp, fuss-free lines that still feel contemporary now, this piece features two floating pedestals, one with three large drawers and the other being a handy cabinet with a shelf*. The pedestals are joined by a black melamine-topped surface which folds back to reveal a central drawer and mirror. A modular bedroom system intended for young forward thinking homes in the 1950s, the 'C' range was finished in either oak or Australian walnut (this piece being a pale oak).
*In the original Stag catalogue the modular 'C' range designs were offered in standard arrangements, but a custom service was also offered too. This is not a converted dressing table, instead this set is particularly rare because it is a custom build featuring 'best of both worlds' a cabinet and drawers in the one piece. Also the central flip-top lid & mirror (and internal geometric teak mirror pegs) is a lesser seen feature too. Item works equally well as a dressing table, sideboard or laptop desk. Sale also includes accompanying Ercol-style stool in beech and black wool (H:39cm x 32 circ.).
Set has been cleaned and restored and is in overall very, very good vintage condition with occasional and minor age related marks as expected.
