A rare and truly remarkable Mid Century Modern British sideboard heavily in the style of Alfred Cox with huge nods to the elegant 'biomorphic' designs of American greats Vladimir Kagan and Adrian Pearsall. The quality of this piece is also in league with Danish designs of that period. The sideboard facade is 'framed' with a modernist edge that almost evokes the angular TV sets of the period, otherwise ornament is kept to a minimum with discreet brass knobs and clever bi-fold doors allowing the beautiful Teak grain to shine. There's plenty of storage too - with two side cabinets with shelves, a slide out cutlery drawer and three large central drawers (with dovetailed joinery). The piece also elegantly rests on beautifully sculpted splayed legs that feature a classy crossbar detail. It seems that no expense was spared in the manufacture of this quality piece and, although we can't 100% attribute it to Alfred Cox, a quality inspection stamp on the rear - dated 18th August 1960 - certainly indicatee that this is a higher-end design, which most probably would have retailed through the likes of Heals.
Item has been cleaned and restored and is in overall excellent vintage condition with occasional and minor age related marks as expected.
