A very rare 1930s Proto-Modernist sideboard of exceptional quality and build. With nods to both Streamline Moderne (a minimalist later strain of Art Deco) and Scandinavian Functionalist design, the sideboard boasts solid construction of thick Maple veneers and solid wood with two large side cabinets and three deep central drawers. Asko of Finland were a highly regarded furniture manufacturer whose designers included Tapio Wirkkala, Eero Aarnio, Maija Heikinheimo and Voitto Haapalainen. *There is also a theory that this sideboard was manufactured in the early 1940s by Asko after a design by Gordon Russell for his highly collectable CC41 Ultility Range, but we cannot verify this for certain...

Item has been fully restored by seller, with the wood stripped back to its original pale tones (and beeswaxed for a cool, satin finish) which contrasts beautifully with the ebonised handles and shadow gap. It is in overall excellent vintage condition with very minor age related marks and repairs as expected.
